Gnomes, people, food

I keep thinking I'll post here about the latest events/thoughts of my crazy life, but by the time I think of it, so much more has happened that what I was going to write about now seems like old news. So I'll do my best to record and share what has been most interesting about the past few weeks:

  • I have too much to do with the business alliance; I will never get it all done, and although I know this, it still haunts me each day. We're about to launch the directory; we have 50 members, and I'm trying to close $25K of sponsorship in the next 7 days
  • The Meadowlark is a cool new Denver venue. You should go there sometime.
  • I recently attended the biggest poetry slam of the year, a competition to select the 5 poets that will represent Denver in this summer's national competition. It was AWESOME. I love poets. I love when someone can weave an entire experience with their words. When they can share a vision or feeling so intensely that I gasp. I admire the courage of some poets, who speak the truth of their or our experiences in such a way that you can no longer act, feel or think the same as you did before. I'm not a slam poet, but wow do I appreciate their work. We have real talent here in Denver.
  • [info]keturnarrived yesterday. It's surreal to have him here, and yet feels comfortable. I was really exhausted yesterday so we didn't do much, but I'm hoping to get a lot done so I can leave the office and spend some quality time. I'm going to introduce him to City O City today, and the Tetris League tomorrow.
  • the news of rising food costs and shortages has finally reached the main stream. I must admit that I'm a bit frightened at times by what people's reactions will be if when our food distribution system crumbles under the rising costs of transportation. So many people not even thinking....
  • Which reminds me; I have lots of seeds to plant in the next few weeks
  • Someone stole kidnapped moved liberated my garden gnome that Art and I got last year in the Czech Republic. We carried it with us for a whole month across Europe before bringing it back home. I shouldn't have let Glenda convince me to put it in the front yard. I'm sad. He was so cute.

  • My garden makes me intensely happy. But it needs more growing things. Can I please have a housemate that will do housework, yard work, garden work? And clean the bathtub when I don't want to? And not be cluttery? And like to cook?
  • Mercer and Timothy (Art's son) are visiting in about 10 days. I'll be good to see him

Well, that's it for now. I'm sure there are more interesting things I could share, but I've forgotten them.

Fun weekend with Keturn

Seriously Beautiful
What a crazy week it has been. Getting caught up with AA25 web site issues and lots of work on planning the SourceTree event and building the new web site. Preparing for [info]keturn's visit meant trying to get everything done, including the filing...alas, the filing was never completed, but felt accomplished nonetheless.

[info]keturn flew in on Thursday afternoon...picked him up from the airport and had a mini-tour of Denver. Stopped at Herbs and Arts for some candles and saw Kaywyn, completely radiant and inspired by plans and blessings for building a healing community. I love seeing people like that, and I admire her for how much she accomplishes. Later on we fixed dinner and shared with Aaron, the watched "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," which [info]keturn had never seen, but I have always loved. Friday morning I got up early to finish work so we could go play; we had lunch at Watercourse followed by a hike in Red Rocks park. We have had so much rain this spring (including two horrible hail storms in the past two weeks that killed a few newly planted seedlings and put ugly holes in the rest) that the park was practically lush, with so many wildflowers, it was beautiful.

Finished hiking and went to "First Friday," an art-walk in the newly created Santa Fe art district. Very enjoyable time. My favorite part is exploring some of the open artist's studios, which strangely fulfills my snooping habit, and felt very intimate. Met a woman from Prague who makes jewelry and teaches yoga...it was nice to hear a European accent again.

Saturday morning (it's now early Sunday morning, but still feels like Saturday) we got ourselves to the Denver Art Musuem before 10:00 to get free tickets to the new building that opened a few months ago, and that I still hadn't seen. I was impressed with it all - the Denver Art Museum is a bit cooler now, and it was fun to explore new art as well as see a few of my old favorites. This weekend is the "People's Fair" in central denver, and we spent a few hours wandering the fair, eating crepes and buying hats for our burning heads. It has been quite a day of conversation with strangers - I think I had friendly and sometimes intimate chats with at least half a dozen perfect strangers, and it was beautiful. Today I've felt so open to the entire world, and it has been lovely.

We met [info]keturn's friend Dan at the fair around 1:00, and wandered a bit together before going to Cafe Europa (one of my favorite Denver coffee shops) for more conversation and milk shakes. I don't even know how to describe how cool it is to have met him. He's a geek who works with open source and who is excited about SourceTree and Congo and currencies - all of it. He's going to come play with us and I can't even say how excited I am. He seems like a wonderful person who's just what we need in these projects. I admire his courage and enthusiasm in putting himself into the projects - and I don't know if he understands what a blessing he has already been.

It occured to me after our pleasant conversation about currencies and economics and American Indians, along with all of my other positive interactions with people today that my new tattoo is also a sort of prayer. (how odd to speak publicly of prayer) How fortunate I am when I open myself up just a little bit, and the universe pours out its abundant support and love and fun.

And the evening got better. We went to the Mercury Cafe and met Dan and his wife Terra for a delicious dinner. She is also geeky and fun and going to participate in the SourceTree event as a logistics / food goddess. How did I get so lucky?

After dinner we flew (slowly, since half the roads are blocked off for the fair) to the Hornet for a Michael Lloyd Band show featuring J on bass. Fun to see those guys and nice to hear J play. Chatted more with [info]keturn about many things, including my habit of calling myself a goddess online, and how terribly open I can be with such public mediums.

We have plans tomorrow for a leisurely breakfast, followed by some light garden work and the poetry slam at the Merc. [info]keturn goes home on Monday afternoon; I may take him with me to Boulder so he can meet Jasper before taking him back to the airport.

This has been a busy, tiring and very nurturing weekend for me. Thank you, [info]keturn, for joining me on this crazy-open-to-the-world ride. It has done more for my heart than anyone could know.
