Cruisin', travel plans, and fungus, Oh My!

Wow. I have not updated my journal in a long time, it seems.

Last night I participated in my second ever Thursday Night Cruise in Boulder. Only in Boulder can 350 cyclists cruise around the city, dressed however they want, cheering and yelling "Happy Thursday" to passerby. Only in Boulder do cars stop and wait for the crazy mob to pass. I had such a great time, despite worrying about not having a light on my bicycle. I'm totally in the mood to pimp out my bike (even though it's a mountain bike, not a cruiser), but I can't spend the cash on that right now. I'm hoping to make Thursday cruises a regular part of my week, which should be easier now that I'm hanging out with Jasper on Thursdays.

I gave a 30-day resignation notice at one of my part-time jobs this week. I just do not have the time to spend on everything I've committed myself to, and my position at the Family Foundation has really been working out lately. My boss is even offering some tuition assistance if I can go full time - which kind of sucks, since I'm not sure how I'd have time for school in that case.

G left this week to South America, and won't return until August 1st. A is traveling quite a bit lately, and is considering taking a CTO position for a great non-profit in DC. If he takes the job, he'll be gone for 6-12 months. Even though I'm excited for him, I am totally bummed that he'll be gone for that long. I just have to keep in mind the long-term plans we have, as well as how much it will benefit him to have the job. Good luck, honey.

Speaking of travel, I'm leaving next wednesday with D to visit his brother and sister-in-law in Lake Havasu. We're flying through Las Vegas, so on the trip back we're staying in Sin City for two nights. Already have tickets to see Zumanity...this will be my second time, but D has never seen a Cirque du Soleil show. We're totally splurging on tickets, but I think it'll be lots o' fun.

I saw "The Da Vinci Code" last week, despite the bad reviews it got in the press. I loved the book, and think the movie was well done. Everyone is knocking it - but I think they really did the best they could with the overful material and the lack of character development found in the book. More than anything I think it's important for people to examine their own beliefs about religion, and think it's awesome that this conversation is main stream. Whether Mary Magdalene was married to Jesus or not, I appreciate that we can talk about it without being murdered for it.

In other weird news, I've gotten ringworm on my leg. Why do I always get strange afflictions? For those of you concerned that I have a parasite, ringworm is actually a fungus, and is the same type of fungus that causes athlete's foot. I've been using an anti-fungal cream, so we'll see how long it takes to disappear.

My garden is beautiful. I still have work to do this weekend, and haven't planted everything I intend to (mostly winter squash), but I am so very excited about the work we've accomplished. At some point I will take photos to share with everyone.
