An Inconvenient Truth

Seriously Beautiful

Last night I saw an inspiring film that I'm sure many here have seen or heard of. It's "An Inconvenient Truth," a film by Al Gore discussing the global warming crisis.

I don't think a single person could walk away from the film doubting we have a problem on our hands. I could go on and on about the film and various reasons I am inspired by it, but the primary thing is: You walk away with real actions you could take now to make a difference.

I want to get the word out and encourage all of us to take real steps now. These include:

  • Watch the Film, and take at least two friends with you.
  • Visit the film's web site. Not only is it pretty, but it includes resources and information about global warming and what we can do about it.
  • Call your electric company and find out about alternative forms of energy available. Subscribe to it, for both your home and office (if possible). If they don't offer it, ask why. Then write a letter to the CEO demanding that it be made available.
  • Call your local political leaders and ask them what they're doing to stop global warming and reverse the damage we've already done.
  • Talk with your friends and family about the issue. The more people who think about it, the more people will do something about it.
  • Reuse things. Then recycle them. Build a compost pile. If you don't have a garden, find out who in your neighborhood or community does. Gardeners love compost.
  • Use public transportation. Ride a bicycle. Carpool. Think of other things you can do to reduce your carbon emissions and encourage more people to do the same.
  • Calculate your carbon emissions. Learn how to reduce them even more, and make a donation to offset the rest of them. The company is a Native-owned energy company that is working to build more sustainable-energy infrastructure.

Learn more about other ways to take action.

The Earth, She thanks you.
